What Are Veneers?

Veneers are thin shells that attach to the front of your teeth. Veneers consist of porcelain and permanently bond to your teeth, helping treat chipped, broken, and discoloured teeth or create a symmetrical smile. Porcelain veneers are long-lasting and resistant to stains.

While veneers are artificial coverings for your teeth, they still need proper dental care. Good oral hygiene can help prevent future dental problems. Additionally, you’ll need to avoid grinding your teeth to prevent potential damage.

What to Expect When You Get Veneers

Veneers generally take 2 separate appointments to complete.

The first appointment involves removing a small amount of your enamel, the tough outer layer of the tooth. Completing this creates room for the veneer to sit on the tooth. We will make a mould of the teeth to help craft your permanent veneer and provide you with a temporary one to wear for the time being.

Once your veneer is complete, you’ll have a second appointment where we attach the permanent veneer and check its fit to ensure it sits comfortably.

Who Can Get Veneers?

Veneers aren’t suitable for every patient, so we will assess your eligibility during a consultation. Our team will look at your teeth to identify potential factors preventing you from getting veneers, such as:

Untreated gum disease affecting the teeth
Teeth with minimal enamel left
Signs of bruxism (teeth grinding)

If a tooth has too much damage, we may recommend a crown instead.
