Missing Teeth? Rediscover the Joy of a Confident Smile!
Missing teeth can leave gaps in your smile and create challenges in your daily life. From difficulty chewing your favorite foods to feeling self-conscious about your appearance, the impact of tooth loss can be significant. At Rockwood Dental, we understand the importance of a complete, healthy smile. Dental implants offer a permanent, natural-feeling solution that can restore both your oral function and your confidence.
What are Dental Implants?
Think of dental implants as artificial tooth roots. They are small, biocompatible titanium posts that are surgically placed into your jawbone. Once integrated, these posts act as sturdy anchors for replacement teeth, known as crowns. The result? A smile that looks, feels, and functions just like your natural teeth.
WHY CHOOSE DENTAL IMPLANTS?
Dental implants offer a range of advantages that set them apart from other tooth replacement options:
- Longevity: With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime, making them a wise long-term investment in your oral health.
- Natural Feel: Implants function just like your natural teeth, allowing you to eat, speak, and smile with ease and confidence.
- Jawbone Preservation: Implants stimulate the jawbone, preventing bone loss and maintaining your facial structure.
- Improved Oral Health: Unlike bridges, implants don’t require altering adjacent teeth. They also make it easier to clean between teeth, promoting better oral hygiene.
- Enhanced Confidence: A complete smile can boost your self-esteem and improve your overall quality of life.

The Dental Implant Process
The dental implant process can take several months, depending on your needs. This entire procedure involves removing your damaged tooth, preparing the jaw (if needed), placing the dental implant, placing the abutment, and placing the artificial tooth.
We’re here to support you throughout the entire implant process.
Potential Bone Grafting
You may require bone grafting if your jaw isn’t thick enough or it’s too soft. Your procedure may fail if the jawbone can’t handle a dental implant.
Bone grafting helps strengthen the jaw to support this implant. We graft new bone in this area, either from somewhere else in your body or artificial material. You can continue the dental implant process after the graft finishes healing.
Dental Implant Placement
We expose your bone to insert the dental implant, opening the gums to reach your jawbone. We drill holes in the bone to place the implant deep into the jaw. After this is complete, we wait for the jawbone to grow into the implant and strengthen, which can take several months.
Abutment Placement
We can place your abutment once your jawbone has united with the dental implant. We’ll reopen the gums to expose the implant and attach the abutment. This abutment holds your artificial tooth.
After closing the gums, we can attach the artificial tooth when the gums heal in around 2 weeks.
Artificial Tooth Placement
After your gums have healed, we can choose your artificial tooth and place it. This tooth can be fixed or removable, depending on your needs.
Aftercare
You may experience several side effects as you recover from this procedure, including:
- Swelling
- Bruising
- Discomfort
- Minor bleeding at the implant site
Our team will help you recover and provide any support you need.
Are Dental Implants Right for You?
Dental implants can help preserve your smile and support your remaining teeth, but the process is an investment that takes several months. We can help determine your eligibility for this procedure and explain what to expect. Request an appointment if you’re interested in a dental implant, and we can discuss this treatment further.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How long does the dental implant process take?
The entire dental implant process can take several months, as it involves healing and osseointegration (the fusion of the implant with your jawbone). However, the exact timeframe varies depending on individual cases and whether additional procedures like bone grafting are needed.
Is the procedure painful?
We prioritize your comfort throughout the dental implant process. Local anesthesia is used during the surgery, and most patients report minimal discomfort. You may experience some soreness or swelling afterward, but this can typically be managed with over-the-counter pain medication.
What is the cost of dental implants?
The cost of dental implants can vary depending on several factors, including the number of implants needed, the complexity of the case, and whether additional procedures like bone grafting are required. We offer personalized treatment plans and transparent pricing, and our team can help you understand the costs involved and explore any available financing options.
Will my insurance cover dental implants?
Dental insurance coverage for implants varies depending on your specific plan. Some plans may cover a portion of the cost, while others may not offer any coverage. We recommend contacting your insurance provider to understand your benefits. Our team is also happy to assist you in navigating your insurance coverage and exploring other payment options.
